Look Before You Ride - An ATV Inspection List
Taking an ATV trip can be fun and exciting; making sure your ATV is in good working condition before you go will help ensure it turns out that way. Off-road riding wears down the machine, which makes regular maintenance critical. You don't want to end up stranded or hurt. The best thing you can do is to check your owner's manual for guidelines specific to your vehicle. In general, you'll want to look over the following things.
First, inspect your tires. Make sure they are at the necessary air pressure level, and that both sides are equal. Check for gouges and punctures; you don't want to lose any air while you're out riding. Look at the bearings and nuts on the actual wheels as well to make sure nothing is loose or worn out. Test the steering; it should be tight and smooth.
Next test the brakes and shifter--make sure the pedals are adjusted to the rider. Try out the kill switch so you know it's working. Check the throttle, and clean off the controls and cables. Make sure the lights (especially brake lights) are working as well. Walk around the vehicle and ensure that all the parts and joints are fastened correctly and are clean. Last, but not least, make sure you have enough fuel and oil. You'll also want to check the coolant level; you don't want the machine overheating!
Get in the habit of washing and inspecting your ATV after every ride and looking it over before the next one. Taking a minute or two to make sure nothing's wrong may save your life, not to mention your trip.

The Badlands Off-Road ATV Park
Trying to find a nice ATV park to ride your ATV in Indiana ? Well, whaddaya know...there are plenty but I have to admit that if you're not familiar with Indiana , finding an ATV park can be a little bit of a challenge. But we have been to Badlands Off-Road Park where we dare say is one of the best ATV park there is in Indiana . The Badlands Off-Road Park is actually located near the western part of Indiana ...near Attica .
This is not a public ATV park so you don't find skateboarders, people hanging around fishing, kids screaming their heads off here. The kids and youth at this ATV park are pretty much just as serious as you are about ATV riding. The Badlands Off-Road ATV park is about 800 acre which provides full day of fun (sometimes days) in many different terrains, so, you get to choose which type of terrain you want to ride in. We loved the wood trails and the bottomless mud parts of this ATV park but you can find others here as well...like the sand dunes, pea gravel hills and the hill-climbing park. We had kids with us during that ATV trip, so, we didn't want to challenge the young ones so early on in life.
Accordingly, the owner of the place, Troy Myers, used to ride in the old gravel quarry as a boy and when he grew-up, he decided to buy off the land and turn it into an ATV park for all ATV enthusiasts! Perfect-o! Now, the great thing about Badlands Off-Road ATV park is that there are many different places designed for ATV riders of differing skill levels - it's good for beginners who want to practice their ATV riding skill and it's also great for those who want to challenge themselves. The kids hung around the ATV's park's kids' track all day long without complaint. Hey, we're telling you that this is no simple thing to us - no kids complaining? Anyway, the kids' track is good for even kids as young as three-years-old, so, don't worry. It's perfectly safe there.
Needless to say, one of the main attraction of this ATV park is the scenery - man, it's just too awesome for words. We spent the whole day riding our ATVs with intermittent stops for good shots in front of jaw-dropping scenery! From sand to mud, from mud to hills and from hills to dirt! We didn't try it out but according to some of the staff there, there's a special 200-acre area designed specifically for trucks section where many rock crawling fans take their trucks to. Apparently, they've hosted National Rock Crawling Championships here before.
This ATV park also offers two gigantic drain tiles where you can race through and land in water...woo hoo! And then there's the massive area with mud in it for all you ATV fans to get really down and dirty in. Didn't I tell you? This is like a big, huge ATV theme park.
If you're interested in riding this ATV park, you'll be happy to know that the park remains open almost all year round from 9 morning till 5pm both weekends and weekdays. They're closed for Christmas and Thanksgiving.
It doesn't cost very much to ride on this ATV park...just pay for their day pass and you're in. The basic rules of ATV riding applies, like no alcohol, safety equipment required, flags are required, no passengers on ATVs, no littering, and there's a speed limit of 5mph in parking areas.
Don't worry about lodging and food either, there are many scattered around nearby areas of the ATV park. Some pretty good restaurants are in Attica so, just take a short drive there for dinner, gas and stuff.
Getting all geared up about riding on this ATV park and need more information? You can visit their website at http://www.badlandsoffroad.com or give them a call at (765) 762 2981 or email them at information@badlandsoffroad.com
Have fun! On a final note, if you want to go there, bring the kids along if you have any. I promise you they'll have a ball there!

Polaris Ranger and RZR Fuel Pump Problems - Is Your Polaris Ranger Running Poorly?
We really like the ride of the Polaris UTVs. Unfortunately, we have noticed that Polaris built the RZR, RZR-S, and Ranger XP with an unreliable fuel pump. In fact, the fuel pump is one of the main problems we see at our service and performance shop. The symptoms you typically experience when your pump is failing are poor upper RPM performance, a loss of top speed and poor acceleration. This definitely makes your Polaris much less fun to drive, but even more importantly, a fuel pump problem can cause your engine devastating damage by not supplying enough fuel. When your engine doesn't receive the required fuel it will run lean.
This creates heat which can cause detonation in the combustion chamber. The worst case scenario (and we have seen this many times) is that the intense heat will actually melt a hole in your piston. Here is what happens. After some usage the pump will wear and then drop from the factory PSI setting of 39 psi, to the low 30s. When your upper revs are sluggish you just aren't getting any fuel. To test this install a fuel pressure gauge at your tank outlet. You can buy these at NAPA or PEP Boys. It is necessary that you rev your engine when testing because many times the pressure will be good at idle but not at the upper RPMs.
To replace your pump with the OEM fuel pump you will need to spend upwards of 0. The high price is because it is only available with the complete fuel tank assembly. Fortunately you can purchase a replacement fuel pump which will work on most Polaris S X S vehicles. Replacement pumps come with color instructions and include everything you will need for installation. Generally they can be installed in about 30 minutes with simple hand tools. The pump plugs right in with no wiring needed.
If you are experiencing poor performance with your Polaris Ranger or RZR this may be your problem. Check out your fuel PSI and if needed get a replacement fuel pump. You bought your Polaris to have some great times. Now you can get back on your UTV and enjoy its top performance once again. As a sidenote this same problematic fuel pump is used in many of the fuel injected Polaris quads. If you own a Polaris ATV and you are having similar symptoms simply follow the same procedure for testing the PSI. Replacement pumps are also available for the Polaris Sportsman.
